Duane Keiser "Father" of Daily Painting Teaches at Wethersfield 7/15-7/17

Duane Keiser, through a series of talks, painting sessions and critiques, will present the fundamental ideas that motivated him to create the “A Painting a Day” movement in 2004. The three-day workshop will focus on premier coup oil painting and the practical and philosophical aspects of making a daily practice. The artist's use of the internet as a sales and marketing tool will also be covered. The workshop is designed to help the intermediate to advanced oil painter expand or refine aspects of his or her own work regardless of whether or not it currently follows the “A Painting a Day” paradigm.

Award Winners Wethersfield Benefit Show

Wethersfield Academy for the Arts hosted it's premier benefit show, with guest jurors Sherrie McGraw and Gregg Kreutz.  59 paintings, drawings, pastels and watercolors were selected from artists across the U.S.  The top prize, first place, and $1,200 was awarded to Ray Hassard of Cincinatti, Ohio for his work "Dawn on the Rocks", an 18" x 30" pastel on board, developed from a plein air study.  Hassard said, "Subject matters to me. I search for unusual subjects and new perspectives on familiar scenes. "

A young artist to watch, Kelli Folsom, of Old Lyme CT, took second place with her still life, "Metal, Glass, Onions" oil on board, 16" X 20".  Kelli's painting has an "old master's" feel to it, laden with atmosphere.

Artist Leah Lopez of New York, NY, received Third Place for her serene still life painting "Copper and Blue".

In addition, the judges awarded five honorable mentions to the following artists:

Wethersfield Premier Show Winners Announced

First Place Winner, Ray Hassard, "Dawn on the Rocks" Pastel, 18 x 24

Top artists from 20 states competed for awards in the first annual art show, judged by Sherrie McGraw and Gregg Kreutz.  The show, held as a benefit for the new Wethersfield Academy for the Arts (WAA) in Wethersfield, CT is on view at Hartford Fine Art and Framing at 80 Pitkin Street, East Hartford.  

Ray Hassard, of Cincinatti, Ohio, was awarded first place for his painting "Dawn on the Rocks".  Second place was awarded to Kelli Folsom, Old Lyme, Connecticut for "Metal, Glass, Onions".  Leah Lopez, of New York, won third place for "Copper and Blue".  In addition, there were five artists who received honorable mentions for their work:  Todd Voss for "Little Japanese Vase with Crab Apples"; Jack Broderick for "Winterspill"; Chris Hooker for "Green Chinese & Lace"; Angela Falstrom for "Chadwick's Studio"; and Mee Sang Skrajnowski for "The Photographer".  

Collectors and artists are invited to view the show at Hartford Fine Art and Framing (860) 528-1409, Monday-Friday 9:30AM-5:30PM, Saturday 9:30AM-3PM.  All paintings are for sale and a portion of the proceeds benefits the WAA.

The Wethersfield Academy for the Arts is a new, nonprofit educational organization located at the Old Buck Farm on Hartford Avenue in Wethersfield, CT. The Academy embraces several art disciplines where students, working directly with professional artists, are guided and encouraged to develop their unique gifts and talents in weekly classes and workshops.
