This three day intensive workshop will be held in our beautiful North light studio.  Students will focus on painting the portrait from a live model using oils.  Sandra will demonstrate how she approaches a portrait as well as help the student problem solve, observe and question what they see. Working with various techniques such as grisaille underpainting, scumbling, glazing and direct painting students will concentrate on capturing form and light in the portrait, look at color relationships, analyzing structure vs anatomy and how to treat edges. Daily discussions and critiques will guide the student in finding key elements in the portrait. The bigger the student’s vocabulary the more impact the portrait will have to the viewer.

Congrats to Award Recipients--Paintings available until 9/17

Charlotte Homick invited attendees to have a taste of
history and art at Community Paint Out Opening.
Community Paint Out artists and friends of WAA gathered last night to enjoy an evening of camaraderie and to hear the results of judging for the show.  Sandra Wakeen and Paul Batch awarded three top awards and two honorable mentions for artwork created for the "Paint Out" held this summer.  The awards were given to:  Ellie Boyd, First Place for "Washing Up"; Janet Leombrini, Second Place for "Morris Farm"; Third Place, Lieschen Seabeck, for "Dunham House"; Honorable Mention to Olena Skiba, for "First Church", and Honorable Mention to Kelly Smurthwaite for "Hartford Avenue Home".    (Click to Available Artwork to see the paintings.)  Galleries will be open to visitors Tuesday-Sunday, 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. until September 17th.

Artists were invited to select their favorite place in the historic village of Old Wethersfield and create a painting or drawing for the show, held in conjunction with the Heritage Project show.  Eleven artists brought twenty-two framed paintings and drawings in a number of media, all available for sale.  A portion of the proceeds goes to benefit ongoing programs at WAA.   Click here to see the Fall Class lineup or here to check the WAA Workshop lineup
